Sayantan Sanyal is a student, currently pursuing BFA at the Indian College of Arts and Draftmanship (Rabindra Bharati University). His work portrays various landscapes and cityscapes as mindscapes. He attempts to focus on a subject and uses minimum brush strokes to highlight it. When he chooses a subject, he prefers to assemble a series with similar subject focus. He likes using a few selected colours for each painting so as to create a dynamic flow, in the hopes of giving the inanimate subject some life. He also likes doing monochromatic work where the subject is generally in colour and the background colour is limited to two colours. Born and brought up in a sub-urban area, his paintings are to illustrate the artistry of nature around him in his own way. His work is heavily influenced by artists like Casper David Friedrich and Paresh Maity.
